Do you know that cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world? More than 100 types of cancer occur but the most common cancers that affect people of India are lung, breast, cervical, neck, brain and colorectal cancer.
World Cancer Day is an initiative of the Union for International Cancer control (UICC), the largest and oldest international cancer organisation dedicated to taking the lead in convening, capacity building and advocacy initiatives that unite the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, promote greater equity, and integrate cancer control into the world health and development agenda.
iVolunteer in association with CanSupport organized an awareness session about cancer in Swami Sivanadnda Memorial institute, New Delhi. The session was aimed at raising awareness about the major causes of cancer such as smoking, alcohol intake, tobacco consumption, lack of exercise, and a sedentary lifestyle, etc.

Objectives of the Cancer Awareness and Educational Programmes:
- To create awareness of the disease.
- To help people recognize the early signs and symptoms of cancer, thus enabling them to seek treatment at an early stage.
- To educate people about the key risk factors of cancer
- To inform people about the importance of cancer check-ups at an early stage.
Dr. Apala, CanSupport resident doctor conducted the session on cancer awareness, she emphasized that according to research, breast and ovarian cancer are on the rise in women, while mouth, lung and blood cancer continues to increase in men. around 60 womens from SSMI attended this session.
