Neha Shrivastava, who grabbed her first work opportunity as a volunteer in a Primary Health center located in the small town of Katra in Jammu. She counselled people on primary health care, avoiding self-medication and preventive health care. Volunteering experience has helped Neha understand what she should look for in a volunteer whereas, the Human resources experience gives her an edge on employee engagement and in managing the relationships at both institutional level and individual level.

In a recent discussion with her, we asked her questions on Gender equality and women’s role in the society, and this is what she had to say:

  • What inspired you to make the decision of getting into the social sector?

I used to be a volunteer of Leo Club when in School, I volunteered for NSS and then with Akanksha Foundation during college days. Volunteering grew on me and I accidentally bumped into iVolunteer more than 7 years ago while volunteering with a close friend in Mumbai. iVolunteer pulled me fulltime into social sector and what a lovely way to do what one wants to do.

  • How difficult is to manage your professional and personal life since you work in the social sector?

It is difficult and one needs to manage their emotions well. There is often a conflict in your head when coming from some extreme social situations to your own living room. One needs to know that the extremities are to be battled with and changed not in head but in reality, it shouldn’t become your stress. Among other things, I like what I do and being here is my choice and passion and so I am able to balance well.

  • Would you recommend other women to also work in the social sector?

Yes, absolutely! There should be a passion within the person. They should be up for it and the challenges involved in it!

  • What is your definition of #PowerInYou?

#PowerInYou for me is the natural superhero instinct in a woman and her ability to pick up any challenge and accomplish it without any fears and any supports.

We have much to do, much to be and much to achieve. Are you ready to bring out the #PowerInYou on this IWD 2017 and beyond?
