Actions speak louder than words!

“Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love”.

Some similar actions were taken by one of our corporate partners, Credit Suisse as a part of their CSR activity. Credit Suisse is an organization that actively participates in social causes. One such contribution was made towards building washrooms for an underprivileged school.

As per the studies, educating a girl has a greater chances of uplifting a society, escaping poverty, leading healthier and more productive lives but society even today in some region do not support girl education stating numerous number of reasons and one of the major reasons is inappropriate school infrastructure and security.

Similar situation was being faced at New English Madhyamic Vidyalay, Bhekrai Nagar, Pune. The school is a government Marathi medium school. In spite, of having a good curriculum the number of students studying there were less and on further discussion with the Principal of the school, it was found that the parents don’t allow their children because of the open washroom they had in the school premises.

After listening to their concern, we had a discussion with the senior management at iVolunteer to comprehend what we can do to support the school with better infrastructure. After a couple of discussions internally, we proposed the idea to Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse was more than willing to support us and the school on this project. We soon got all the approvals in place and the washroom construction began. Credit Suisse has always been one of the responsible and socially aware corporate working towards the growth and common good of the society.

Along with toilet construction, Credit Suisse also contributed in revamping the school with help of their employees who came in group on Feb 28th and did some amazing mural paintings in most of the classrooms, these murals were drawn by the students themselves, and employees filled all these designs with bright colors. Employees also did some desk painting, and paper bag making activity to encourage recycling and reuse. The school took out a rally in the nearby community with students holding placard written Eco-friendly messages on it. This rally aimed at creating awareness on #NoPlastic and how usage of plastics is harmful to the society and distributing paper bags to the nearby vendors. Around 500 paper bags were made collectively by volunteers and students.

I personally felt overwhelmed when I went to the school after the construction of toilet and the Principal Sir of the school was full of praises for the work. The love I received from the students was enormous. After a lot of ups and downs, a lot of hard work, a lot of running all over for the work was all worth when the happy faces came to me and said “Thank You Didi” in a chorus. 🙂
