When I first saw the place in the above picture, it felt like a herculean task for it to change into a happy spot. It was difficult to even stand and take a picture owing to the stench of rotten thrown away food, rubbish.
Any guess where this place could be?
This is the backside compound wall of a Govt School where more than 200 students study!!
A plan was in the pipeline for a beautification drive at this school with 100 plus corporate volunteers. But then this spot was beyond volunteer intervention as it required joint efforts of school authorities, block education department (BEO), Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) and other related local authorities.
While firming permission from BEO office, an appeal was made for a Happy Spot near the compound wall. It was redirected to School Head Mistress (HM) to raise a complaint with BBMP. The appeal was handed over to School HM who assured of taking action.
And then we got a sixer!! Not from Sachin Tendulkar but by collaborative efforts of School HM and local authorities. A clean and hygienic happy spot where cars are parked now and not garbage!!
We conducted the beautification drive in the Govt School with over 150 corporate volunteers. Our professional artist wrote hygienic messages on the happy spot wall making the message more stronger – Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
(iVolunteer has conceived and/or supported 998 happy spots across 7 cities through volunteer efforts as part of Daan Utsav celebrations 2017. For more information please visit our page: https://www.facebook.com/ivolunteer.in/).
