On International Volunteer Day, Our volunteers enjoyed a scenic trek to Naigaon’s Chinchoti waterfalls along with a clean-up drive.
Joined by Team iVolunteer mumbai, 28 volunteers went on a day-long trek to Chinchoti waterfalls in Naigaon (E), 20- 30 minutes from Chinchoti Phata on the Western Express highway.
Recommended for beginners, the moderate trek started from Kaman Village in Vasai. Bordered by thick foliage on both sides of the foothill, it might even allow you to cross the stream a few times before reaching the falls.
However, this isn’t your average trek as it involved a clean-up drive along the trekking route.
As iVolunteer, Our mission is to bring volunteers and organisations together to share time, skills and passion to promote India’s social development.
With a range of initiatives and a large network of individuals, NGOs, and corporate organisations. A trek is one such initiative to engage like-minded people in a more relaxed setting.
Our schedule was as follows
7.30 am: Report for departure at Naigaon (E) station
8 am: Transfer to Kaman Village by autorickshaw
8.30 am: Breakfast at a local restaurant at Kaman Village
9:30 am: General safety introduction and briefing
11 am: Arrive at waterfall point
11.30 am: Cleaning the trek point
2 pm: Close of cleaning drive
2.30 pm: Lunch/snacks
3 pm: Start downwards to Kaman Village
4.30 pm: Reach base village, travel to Naigaon station by auto
4:45 pm: Snacks
5 pm: Departure from Naigaon station
Charting Chinchoti
Post a brain storming session, the team zeroed in on the lush green forest area leading to Chinchoti waterfalls, due to its proximity to the city. Chinchoti offers a breathtaking trek experience. Since it is a regular trekking spot, it has become polluted and families often leave behind thermocol plates, plastic bags and bottles while younger groups discard empty beer bottles and cans. This puts a lot of burden on the eco-system of Chinchoti, specially affecting its water quality.
Our volunteers were provided with gloves, masks and garbage bags. The team has also made arrangements to discard the collected waste, by carrying it to the nearest municipal garbage dumping spot.
We thank all our Volunteers for helping us Inspire by Example.
