Commitment to work for society gives you a rich experience. This domain demands you to learn everyday and execute your skills to make your work easier and effective. Learning might come in any form for example meeting Elite people will help you to reshape your ideas, meeting achievers will help you to be optimistic ,meeting government officials will help you to handle responsibilities, meeting public figures will help you to become diplomatic even an accident in this profession also have a potential to teach you something. Yes, today I wish to share my learning through an accident experience.
Resource are very important but they are limited.
It was normal regular day. I was supposed to meet stakeholders . I have a bad habit of trying to save or cut short expenses. Hence I decided to take a lift which costed my knee.
We are supported by travelling reimbursement but still I decided to take a free lift not realising the importance of available resources. Just to save 10-20Rs I forced myself to spend almost 2 years travelling expenses on medication. We have been provided with health insurance but I could not claim as it has a certain restrictions. similarly every resources that are available to us are also limited.Making best use of available Resources is also important skill.
Opportunities v/s looking like an opportunity.
Auto stand is almost 1.5 km away from my room. I had 2 to 3 opportunity to take lift as i started walking from my room but I neglected them. I decided to take shortcut way to reach the project village. I was very close to the village but I asked for the free lift . After getting on to bike I realised that a man was drunk .still I had a good chance to save my leg but decided to take a chance.
Life always comes with many opportunities but we should be wise enough to select the right one. I under estimated risk and overrated the short term comfort.
Trust your people
Many people gathered near spot and started giving so many valuable suggestions, advise and ideas to reach the hospital but none of them came to Help us. few of them identified the person who gave me lift and they help him because he was from the same village .I was silently observing what was happening in and around me.
My co-fellow rushed to the spot. He didn’t talk much but travelled almost 1 km in hot sunny to get me bottle of water and helped me to reach back.
In this incident it was evident that our people are very important. Villagers didn’t bother about me, they consoled him and even spoke good words to him despite knowing he was drunk. Rather some of them tried blaming for an accident as though I was just sitting with him before he safely landed me in a ditch. When my friend came to spot he helped me , gave me water and arranged an vehicle to take me to room for first aid. He didn’t even look at other person because we were team members and ultimate it’s team that works together.
Being mindful before accepting any favour
It was not strange to hear people boosting, over exaggerating of their kind gestures. Moreover I was not in a position to say no to the false statements they were quoting. Because I had already accepted the favour and help. It was a great moment to remind me that we are captains of our ship. And we should fight alone as much as possible.

Don’t believe things just by listening or just because someone suggested. Since I was new to the place I didn’t know any good doctor or hospitals.i just believed in 5 star ratings and recommendations made by people. Some even suggested me to const near by hospital just to check how good that doctor in treating patients as they were aware that he had recently joined the hospital. I just realized that lack of authentic information will lead to many issues and complications as i took there suggestions blindly.
Commitments and Motivations
I could not stop myself from visiting village regularly after injury. Many people used point at my injury and they used to appreciate the commitment. That was kind of motivation. Some times your interest can help you overrule small problems and pain you go through.
Uncertainty
It was very small incident but I wasn’t ready for it. I had so many plans in my bucket . it’s close to 3 months I am still struggling. Life always hits us with many unexpected challenges. Some times challenges might be very small but impact will be very big. We cannot afford to waste time in repenting rather we should accept and learn how to avoid getting into the trouble. Even God is also smart he doesn’t let us fail in same challenges because he keeps throwing new one.
It was an expensive free lift not because I am paying on medicine but it is taking my inexpensive time and energy

Nice experience sharing, Manjunath. I also remember my journey in Rajasthan when I was heavily reliant on getting rides from people to travel to different schools in the villages. These rides gave me a sense of love, support, and care from unknown locations and communities.
