Cashew – The Hidden Treasure Of Konkan

( A fruit people don’t talk much about but should !)

when people talk about konkan, they think of mangoes (Hapus) , coconut trees, Fishes and beaches. But their’s another special gift of this land-Cashew

When i first came to a village in Ratnagiri, i didn’t know how important cashew is here. Cashew trees are everywhere behind homes , on farms, on the sides of hills quietly growing just like the people here simple and strong.

From tree to plate- The cashew journey

cashew season in konkan starts from February to April . The cashew fruit is called ‘ kaju Sol‘ in local language. It’s red orange and tastes sweet and sour.

But the real magic is inside the cashew nut . It takes a lot of effort to get it out boiling, drying, and breaking it by hand.

In many villages , women come together and do this work . It’s not just about earning money it’s about hard work, unity and self respect .

Women and cashew- A story of strength

I once visited a women’s group who were processing cashew nuts . One women told me ,

People know about Hapus , but they don’t know our cashew goes to foreign countries!

And that’s true. Many villages in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are connected to cashew processing and exports , but their stories are still hidden.

Taste, Health, and Pride

konkan cashew are not just tasty they are healthy too . Full of protein , good fats, and magnesium. And when they are processed by hardworking village women , they carry a flavour of pride .

Next time you visit konkan………

Buy cashews made by real people with real stories.

Because konkan is not just the land of Hapus it’s also the home of hidden hero cashew.
