Fellowship journeys can be exhausting—long days, endless work, and stress. But my journey took an unexpected and heartwarming turn when a dog and a cat entered my life.
From the day I arrived in Salboni, I have been seeing the neighboring apartment cat – a sweet fluffy white Persian cat named Leo. He was always scared of me and scratched a lot while trying to hold it. So, we did not have a good relationship until I adopted a street puppy. Leo was curious to know what the new arrival was and started coming and sitting to just observe the new puppy.
One fine day, I felt an urge to adopt a puppy. A regular street dog in the township had recently passed away, leaving behind three little pups. A kind lady took care of them, and I decided to adopt one.
I named him Nonte, after a famous Bengali comic character. (His twin brother was called Phonte, and their sister, Keltu Di—yes, the names had to match!). Nonte was tiny, playful, and full of energy, completely unaware of the adventures awaiting him.
Leo, who once ignored me, suddenly became very interested in Nonte. He would sit nearby, staring at the new arrival as if he were analyzing a new reality show.
Their first interaction was hilarious. Leo, being the senior resident, decided to establish his dominance. Poor Nonte was so terrified that he squeezed himself inside a shoe rack for safety. But over time after five months, something magical happened they stopped fearing each other and started observing instead.
What began as cautious staring sessions quickly turned into playful chases, shared meals, and cozy naps. Before I knew it, Leo and Nonte had become inseparable.
- They started sneaking off downstairs for secret adventures.
- They began eating together—though Nonte clearly loved food more.
- They even started sleeping on the same bed, proving that a cat and a dog can be best friends.
What started as a tiring, stressful journey has now become something I look forward to every day. Nonte and Leo have turned my life into a mix of laughter, surprises, and endless love.
Now, when I return home after a long day, I’m not just greeted by silence—I’m greeted by a wagging tail and a fluffy cat demanding attention.
And honestly? That makes everything so much better.
